Our Story

From the Heights, For the Heights

At 1Ō5 Brewing, we’re more than just a brewery—we’re a gathering place for friends, family, and the Billings Heights community. It all started with a shared dream to create a space where people could come together over great beer and feel a genuine sense of belonging. For our founder, Travis Zeilstra, this dream was rooted in both his love for the craft of brewing and his deep connection to the community where he grew up. Our mission is simple: to build a vibrant and inclusive space where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re enjoying a hand-crafted pint of beer or a freshly brewed cup of coffee, you’ll taste the passion and care we pour into every sip.

Past & Future

A New Chapter for the Heights

The story of 1Ō5 Brewing is deeply intertwined with the journey of our founder and brewmaster, Travis Zeilstra. With over 20 years of experience in the craft beer industry, Travis’s career began with brewing his first batches at Pelican Pub and Brewery in Oregon. From there, he honed his skills, eventually becoming the Head Brewer at Montana Brewing Co., where he earned the title of GABF Small Brewery Brewer of the Year in 2007.

Travis’s path then took him to Black Tooth Brewing Co. in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he led the brewery through a successful expansion and helped establish its reputation for exceptional beers. Most recently, he oversaw brewing operations at By All Means Brewlab in Billings, continuing his dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

Brewing for the Heights

Rooted in Tradition, Inspired by Community

Now, with 1Ō5 Brewing, Travis is coming full circle—returning to his roots in the Billings Heights with a vision to create something truly special for the community he’s always called home. His deep appreciation for traditional brewing techniques, combined with a passion for local ingredients and innovation, is what drives 1Ō5 Brewing forward. The brewery’s focus is on creating small-batch, hand-crafted beers that honor time-honored styles while offering something unique to the Heights.

Looking ahead, Travis envisions 1Ō5 Brewing as more than just a brewery—it’s a community hub, where great beer, local partnerships, and shared experiences come together. As we continue to grow, we’ll stay true to our roots while constantly pushing the boundaries of what craft brewing can be, always with our community at the heart of everything we do.

Bio

I was born and raised in the Billings Heights, my wife and I grew up a couple blocks apart and both attended Alkali Creek Elementary where we first met Travis.

We all graduated Skyview High School the same year where our lives took separate journeys.

We all reunited after a couple years, when Nicole and I got married and Jen and Travis were our witnesses to the Justice of the Peace in Forsyth, MT.

Our paths separated for a number of years when Nicole and I moved to Miles City to start my career in the Fire Service.

We moved back to Billings after 5 years where I continued my Fire Service career at the Billings Fire Department, but also started a concrete business, FKF Concrete, with my brother Ken Fleury and Tim Kaczmarek.

Upon moving back, Nicole and I chose to stay in the Heights because the Heights was “home” to us. We raised our 3 kids here; Tyler, Zane, and Kelcey.

Life was busy raising 3 active kids and working two full time jobs. I remember one particular “date night” years ago, when Nicole and I were driving to go have a beer and catch up on our crazy lives. I remember how frustrating it was that we didn’t have a brewery in the Heights. I called Travis at that very moment and asked him what it would take to start a Brewery in the Heights. Travis was brewing in Sheridan, Wyoming at the time, and he advised me about the complications of opening a brewery and why it wasn’t the right time then.

Fast-forward several years to when Jen and Travis moved back to Billings. I re-asked the question if it was the right time to build a brewery in the Heights and he said “Yes!”

I honestly am not sure who thought up the concept of combining coffee and beer, but I remember Travis suggesting the idea and it was as if he took the words out of my mouth.

Fortunately, living in the community most of my life, I have built a network of amazing friends and contacts which led me to Bryce and Erin Kirschenmann. Upon explaining my vision, they too expressed their desire to build a brewery. With their expertise in the commercial building industry, Travis’ vast brewing history, and the location I had acquired, we had the perfect partnership to press “GO.”

This journey is about community. I have been blessed to have been raised here, serving the community in both the concrete construction industry and the Fire Service. 105 Brewing is about giving back to the community that has been such a benefit to us. The Heights has always struggled to attract and maintain businesses, and my hope is that this brewery is a place the Heights can call their own!

My passion for 105 Brewing is to provide an excellent Experience Hub, for community connection, not just for the Heights but the entire Billings community and surrounding areas. I hope the 105 serves as a place to pause our fast paced lives, digital communication, and our progression towards an AI lifestyle. My goal for the 105 is to embrace our human connection and face to face relationships.

Our story is about friendship, our story is about vision, our story is about the Heights.
